Welcome to Melali Scuba Diving

The jewel in the strand of pearls that make up the Indonesian islands, has, for the fifth time in a row, been voted as the number one among the ten most beautiful islands in the world, according to the US magazine “Travel and Leisure“.

Mainly famous for its Gods, demons, temples, dancers, lush rice terraces and volcanoes, has, in recent years, become a prime destination for divers from all over the world, even rated by some well-known under water photographers as the most rewarding site in Indonesia.

Since Bali lies between eight and nine degrees south latitude, the temperature is warm and diving is actually possible all year round with water-surface temperatures between 26°C – 28°C.

There are two seasons in Bali, the dry season, influenced by the Southeast Monsoon, lasts approximately from June to September, the wet season, influenced by the Northwest Monsoon, from about December to March.

The Southeast Monsoon is also responsible for the upwelling of cold, plankton-rich water from the deep basin south of Bali attracting for instance Molas and other large fish. Thus, water temperatures may drop to merely 16°C to 18°C in certain places.

Another reason for the abundance of marine life is caused by the Indonesian Throughflow, touching the east coast of Bali as well as Nusa Penida and is also one of the sources of currents which may reach up to four knots at specific dive sites.

In general, September to November are the best months for diving, December is good, April to August good to very good. From January to March visibility is sometimes a bit poor but the water is warm and you find good diving conditions at specific sites such as the north coast with Menjangan where you might spot whale, whaleshark and Manta. But with the climatic changes affecting the weather all over the world, predictions have become a gamble.
